Understanding Sharing – With Nifty, Tafty and Mouse

Understanding Sharing – With Nifty, Tafty and Mouse

Understand Sharing is a new generation children's book that directs certain development themes to young ones. The subject of sharing, ownership, greed and bullying are approached in a fun and colourful way.

The characters are all likeable and the essence is to guide kids to what is good and positive, rather than dip them into guilt and shame (if you could anyway).

Description

Understand Sharing is a new generation children’s book that directs certain development themes to young ones. The subject of sharing, ownership, greed and bullying are approached in a fun and colourful way. The characters are all likeable and the essence is to guide kids to what is good and positive, rather than dip them into guilt and shame (if you could anyway). The themes are what all parents would like to tell their children, yet words are not usually enough. These books work on the level the children are operating on – fun, pictures and friendly characters.

The book takes a journey through the questions that kids are always unconsciously asking. “What’s mine?” “Why can’t I have it all” “Why is that kid not sharing with me?”

The whole idea of territory, sharing and understanding comes through the story as mouse intervenes (and sits in quiet judgment) as an intermediary to the two cats.

The playful nature of Nifty and Mouse get Tafty interested as they have something he doesn’t – fun!

Here is an excerpt:

Nifty The Cat also lived in the same house as Tafty – but Nifty was thin and unhappy. Whenever Nifty wanted to eat, Tafty would say (in cat language) “This is MY food”.

When Nifty wanted to go to sleep, Tafty would say (again, in cat language) “This is my bed”. And even when Nifty wanted to sit on a chair, Tafty would scowl and say “This is MY chair!”

And Tafty would laugh a cat laugh and know that Nifty was smaller and could not win over Tafty. Nifty would often ask Tafty “Why can’t I have that food?” “Because I am bigger than you,” Tafty always replied, or “Why can’t I sleep there?” “Because I was here first,” Tafty would say.

Mouse was watching everything from her house, inside the house. Mouse really couldn’t care less about either cat. “They’d both eat me for dinner,” she thought to herself. “Why should I care?” And mouse would sit quietly, sitting and watching, gently gazing at the day as it began to close and night skies brought their sleepy stories to her eyes and ears. Mouse didn’t need anyone to feed her or give her a house or place to sleep – she made it all for herself.
