The NLP Experience | Part Two

The Four Major Experiences

Four Major Experiences helped turn my life around and hopefully by choosing the best words I possibly can with heart & soul, I can craft & create an experience for you that will leave a lasting impression on your life:

1.

Education

From Day 1 of the NLP training we were primed to soak up all the information like a sponge, through a technique called The Now State or The Hakalau. It’s important to get the information – without the information we end up down the wrong road and with it, our goals, our dreams and our life hit a dead end. Life is worthwhile if we are in the (k)now. I’ve heard it said ignorance is not bliss, the book you don’t read can hurt you.

In The Now State, there are no emotions that distract you, no thoughts which impede your direction.
The reason for this is that your whole VAKOG (visual, auditory, Kinaesthetic, olfactory, gustatory) is being used up and everything becomes one universal system of possibilities. Thus giving you the opportunity to soak up all that information like a sponge would with water. Learning how to soak it up, learning how to comprehend, learning how to take it all in got me turned around and if I could turn it around, anybody can!

2.

Flexibility

To quote Master Yoda once again –

do or do not - there is no try YodaI have seen this quote used in a lot of NLP circles but this is not true though, is it? Isn’t NLP all about flexibility? When we learn, we have got to do something with it. Put it to work and if it doesn’t work out, be flexible and try something else. There is more than one right route to find the destination, more than one way to solve a Rubik’s cube.

Too many times I’ve heard people say – I’ve tried everything and nothing works, really? Have you put a gun to your head? No! Then you have not tried everything. Now I know what you are thinking, that’s a bit extreme, because I am thinking the very same. My point is to show you there is always another way (I didn’t have to keep going down that wrong road) and with NLP there is a never-ending list of variety and ways to try different things, that are safer than putting a gun to your head!

In the Practitioner Training I didn’t have to wait long to see some examples of this in form of the 12 Presuppositions of NLP– Here are just three:

    People are not their behaviours!

    – Try a behaviour if it doesn’t work out, change it and try another.

There is no failure, only feedback!

    – There is a difference between failing and being a failure. Failing means you “try” again but being a failure means you have given up.

    The Law of Requisite Variety

    – Even the word Variety says it is not black or white, yes or no, do or do not. Try, Try and Try again.

3.

Tenacity

To have an unyielding tenacity, Rottweiler-like relentlessness to stay until I have achieved the NLP skills I will lay before me. To plant the seed and stay long enough that I reaped the harvest. It takes time to do this, some people plant in the spring and leave in the summer when the going gets too hot.

When you find it hard to gain Rapport because you can’t match someone’s energy or you can’t fire off an Anchor you tried to access or a Swish Pattern didn’t work the first time you tried.

It takes time to comprehend and patience to stay in the field until the harvest finally comes.
I learned to have that tenacity, hanging in there through the dark days and the tough times, when everyone else gives up and goes home, stay in the field and practice these techniques. That was the difference that turned my life around, the tenacity to stay and see the uncomfortable situations through, stay until I mastered the skill.

I stayed long enough until I was good enough to share this opportunity with you, share my stories and words with a mixture of heart and soul. The challenge of The Meta Model and The Milton Model gave me the opportunity and chance to work wonders with my words and invest this in other people’s lives help turn their world inside out, to inspire vision for a better world called NLP World.

4.

Inspiration

If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. And if you want to master something, teach it! – Yogi Bhajan

Inspiration comes in many forms. A lyric of a song, a movie that touches your heart, a sunset, the beautiful colours of springtime, a quote, a mentor: As you can see there are lots of ways to inspire and the list doesn’t end there, one way NLP helps us inspire is through Metaphors

A mentor of mine used to say –

If a cup is full can you put anymore in it, the answer is yes, if you pour some out. If you pour some out now you’ve got room to expect some more!

money does grow on treesAre my reasons to inspire, self-interest reasons? Yes! However I also want to invest in you, I wish to inspire you, to help you, I want to share ideas and see what might work for you. It’s a self-interest reason because I have heard if you give it, it isn’t gone, when you empty your cup for others it’s invested and the universe brings more back to you in ways that you never thought. To turn my life around I needed to inspire myself and change my life philosophy – “I now Never Fail, to Constantly and Continuously Improve My Self, and Others”

I share this to show you how it helped me, I share this to inspire you, I share my story to help our community, help our industry, help other Practitioners and I share my thoughts and ideas of self-interest, because if you pour some out you create room to expect some more.

All of this leads me to where I am now, sharing my story with you fine people, but not only am I sharing my story, I am also practising and learning my craft. On my way to cultivating an unshakable character, building solid foundations for an indestructible future, not just for myself but for you and the generation of tomorrow…
